FAQ
The short version of everything in the guides — what people actually ask before they go.
Get to Odda first: about 3 hours by road from Bergen and about 6 from Oslo. From Odda it is about 30 minutes to the trailhead at P2 Skjeggedal by car or shuttle bus; getting to Trolltunga compares every option.
On the 2026 tariff, P2 Skjeggedal costs NOK 550 for the day, road toll included. The 30 spaces at P3 Mågelitopp cost NOK 600 plus the NOK 220 road toll and must be pre-booked until 31 August. Check the current rates before you go.
Yes, in summer. In 2026 shuttle buses ran from Odda to P2 Skjeggedal from 15 May to 27 September, and a second shuttle ran from P2 up to P3, costing NOK 150 uphill for adults. The last bus down from P3 left at 19:00.
From P3 Mågelitopp it is 20 km there and back and takes 7–10 hours; from P2 Skjeggedal it is 27 km and takes 8–12 hours. The hike guide covers the route, the seasons and what to carry.
It is graded Very Demanding because it is over 20 km long. The trail is well marked and in good condition, but you need good fitness and endurance, and you should never set out in strong wind, heavy rain or fog.
Experienced hikers can go on their own from 1 June to 30 September. The rest of the year the destination company recommends hiking only with a guide, and in winter it says to hike only with one.
A guided route that climbs a cliff above Ringedalsvatnet on fixed steel steps, the highest wall 250 m, then walks the final 3 km to Trolltunga. The minimum age is 15 and no climbing experience is needed; the tours guide compares it with the other formats.
Yes. Guided overnight trips sleep in a dome or tent camp near the ledge, with meals and sleeping gear included, so you see Trolltunga at sunset without the crowds. You can also camp on your own at the marked sites. The tours page lists the overnight trips.
